Once again, I come across a novel that I somehow missed in high school and thus, I missed it ever since. Until I again had a student reading it. So I picked up a copy. A very fun adventure in a very cold land. I knew I had seen the movie but remembered nothing from it. No matter. The book has a terrific way of shifting the protagonist around and demonstrating the primary law of the wild: survival.
It's also a considerably easy read for the time period--where others were getting bogged down in heavy prose. Just great for kids AND adults.
