This was my first flight of the year, and it was a bit different since I didn't reach the 75K mark in 2022. Therefore, upgrades would not be as frequent. For this trip I wasn't upgraded to first class either way. I thought I would be okay with that, but I also found I missed the perk, so when they said I could get to 75K if I flew 20,000 miles in the first four months of 2023, I opted to complete that mission. However, for this flight, it would be in premium economy.

I parked at the SeaTac parking garage and soon was on my way to New York City. I landed at Liberty International Airport (EWR), and then had to take the trains into Manhattan. I didn't have a lot of time and there was a delay, so that caused a little bit of concern as I was seeing show at night and still had to check into the hotel. Thankfully, the delay didn't last too long and I was soon in downtown Manhattan at Penn Station.

I made the mistake of jogging up a dozen or so blocks to the hotel instead of just hopping on the subway. At the time I guess I just never realized how beneficial the subway could be and I was walking too often. To be clear, it's fine to walk if you're not in a hurry, but sometimes it wasn’t the smartest choice. When I reach the hotel, I checked in and didn't have a lot of time. One thing that was concerning was they photographed my driver’s license which I didn't really care for. (When I checked out, I got that photocopy back). My room was not great, but not the worst thing ever for the price ($130). I guess it was worth it. And I would be there for a very short amount of time. But I showered quickly and got over to the theater which was only a few blocks away.

The show I was seeing was Leopoldstadt, as I had heard great things about it. It was a serious dramatic play about a Jewish family after World War II, and well, it's hard to tell how good it was because I was just dead tired from traveling all day, and I was very sleepy by the second act, and really didn't have much idea what was going on at that point. So was it a waste of money? Yeah, I guess so. But I was still getting miles for the trip, so that was fine, and I was meeting a friend of mine the next day.
